Sick Days and Perverted Cartoons

First of all, I have been sick. SICK. Like dear-lord-look-after-my-child-my-hubby-and-my-horse-dog-and-just-put-me-out-of-my-misery sick. Some sort of stomach flu. I won’t get into too many details, as I don’t want to lose all eight of my readers (and any lurkers), but needless to say, it has not been pretty. After taking a shower yesterday afternoon, I started to feel almost human again. That is until my husband walked into the house and told me that I looked “skody”. I’m not quite sure what that word means. From the look on his face when he said it, I was pretty sure it was not a synonym for pretty, radiant or even healthy. After that, I just couldn’t help but feel “skody” all over again.

I felt so sick that I even…LOST MY WILL TO BLOG!! The thought of even turning on my computer sounded like too much work. I didn’t feel like writing or reading! For me, that is really sick. I shudder to even think how many posts I have on my Google Reader (which, can I just say, is the best invention ever). So, I will be very busy this morning.

In addition to losing my will to blog, I also threw the “No TV during the day until Backyardigans at 5″ rule out the window. I was too sick to care if I was ruining my child by letting him watch Noggin all day. It’s only one day, right? I mean, it can’t have caused too much harm…Anyway, during this time, I let Ryder watch whatever was on Noggin, except the show “Franklin”. If you have never seen it, it is a cartoon about a bratty little turtle. I don’t like Franklin. He is spoiled and whiny. The other day, I happened to catch a bit of the show when I turned the TV on to watch something else. What I saw reinforced the idea that this show was bad and not appropriate for my son.

I am not quite sure what the “plot” of this particular episode was, but they must have been solving a crime or a mystery of some sort. All I know is that they had a character on the show called “Inspector Beaver”. That’s right. Say it out loud to yourself if you must. Now, maybe it’s just me. Maybe my mind is too far in the gutter to just accept that it is a cartoon character and kids really have no clue. I just can’t help thinking that someone over there at Franklin headquarters is a little pervy. And chuckling to himself at what he got away with. And while we are talking about cartoons, what the heck kind of animal is Uniqua? Seriously.

Aww! Get better soon! I hate stomach bugs. Ugh! Yuck! Phooey!

I love GoogleReader, too. But I can’t kick my Bloglines habit all the way. I still check my feeds there even though most of the time they update like HOURS after Google does and hald the time it’s broken. Heh.

Inspector Beaver. Heheheheheheheheh. I had to say it out loud a few times (well, whispering so people at the desks around me didn’t think I was going postal) and THEN I got it. Heheheheheh.

In the UK there was a kids TV programme called Captain Pugwash where, urban legend has it, two of the characters were Seaman Staines and Master Bates.

I forget whether this was actually the case or not though.

Either way, Inspector Beaver is a great find.

    And get well soon.

That’s right, I used to watch Capt. Pugwash. It also had a character called Roger the Cabin Boy… “roger” being British (particularly English) slang for sex…

    Get well soon, Melsie.

I hope you’re feeling better soon!

This post cracked me up with the cartoon references! I have also wondered what the heck Uniqua is. I guess that’s where she gets her name – she’s so unique that she isn’t even a real animal. :)

Peanut – Google Reader and Bloglines are sites where you can add blog feeds so that when blogs you read a lot update you get notified. You can read all your blogs on one page, or click the link to view the original page. It makes blog surfing a whole lot easier!

CattyPants: Truth be told, I had never known what either was, but Grace told me about GoogleReader. And now I’m a believer. And I TOTALLY got the funniest mental image of you whispering “Inspector Beaver” under your breath!

Sol: Thanks for the get well wishes…and ewwww to the character names! Those Brits! Always walking the line…must be why I love em!

SJ: Why am I not surprised that you watched that show? And that was just a tiny rumble, not bad at all…

Peanut: I have so many bad habits to teach you! BWAHAHA!

Kymberli: Thanks! Yeah, for awhile I was thinking she was some weird pink ladybug, but now…I’m not so sure.

Grace: She’s unique alright! And no, it’s not bad. You’re right. Some days you just HAVE to!

Franklin got on my last nerve too. But, in all fairness, it is about animals and you gotta be fair to the beaver. :)

Miles was big into Teletubbies when he was Ryder’s age. Talk about wanting to bash your head into the microwave. GAH.

I still can’t get over the fact that Oswald’s dog is actually named “Weinie.” And no one is bothered by this?!

The one I had to ban was Little Bill. In one episode, Bill’s dad is teaching him not to be bothered by the bully who called him a “Poopy Diaper Baby.” Guess what MiniMe called me that night when he got mad at me.

    Just popped over from SITS!

Never thought of Franklin like that – you know that had to be a man that thought of that name.

We have similar bratty issues with Max and Ruby. Ruby is quite the bratty, bossy big sister. And where in the world are the parents????
