Honesty DOES Pay (At Least at Trader Joes)

Last week (or possibly the week before, who knows anymore) I returned home from Trader Joes to find two extra goodies in my bag. One was a can of Chicken Dog Food and the other was a tub of Lavendar Salt Scrub. Neither were mine. I fished out my receipt and saw that they had charged me for the dog food, but not the scrub. I set both items aside along with the receipt to return to the store on my next trip.

Yesterday I put both items in my handy-dandy insulated bag and off we went! When I went to the Customer Service desk, I explained what had happened and that I wanted to return the two items. When the guy behind the desk got to the scrub, he looked at me and asked me why I didn’t just keep it. Of course, I didn’t want to tell him that the last thing I needed was another jar cluttering up the shelf on my tub, so I just explained that it wasn’t the right thing to do (I know, I’m such an angel, right?).

As Ryder and I were going through the checkout, the manager came and scanned the dog food as a return. Then he brought me a bouquet of flowers to thank me for my honesty. ME!

Flowers? For me?

Flowers? For me?

I was feeling rather good and very positive as far as my Karma goes. I got home and unpacked my groceries. As I looked in the last bag, I nearly peed my pants from laughing so hard. Guess what was in there?

That’s hilarious! I guess Cashy is getting a treat soon!

He gave you flowers? That’s so nice! Maybe he was hitting on you, hmm?

I have never been to a Trader Joes but I saw an Ellen Show episode where she went there and gave people money and just did funny Ellen stuff and the store actually looks very cool!

I love that the dog food was snuck back into the bag. That’s awesome.

We once accidentally got a free bag of corn from Trader Joe’s. I made my husband stop in and pay for it the next time he drove by. You can’t imagine the confusion he caused trying to pay for a bag of corn that he didn’t want to take with him. In the end they just gave him the corn.

Hi Mel, it’s Mark V. from DT years ago – I saw your blog linked from FB and I just read this post – this is SO FUNNY that you ended up with the dog food again! I particularly enjoyed the caption you put on the dog food picture! :D

Carla and I are starting to talk about having kids. I am thankful to be able to read your posts about parenting and the great tips and suggestions that your friends and family have responded with. We should all get together sometime, I’d love to meet your man and your son!
